How to Have Good Self-Care!

Can we talk about self-care for a minute? As a student, as a sonographer, as a human in general, we tend to forget about one very important person and that is ourselves. We spend so much time caring for others that we tend to forget about us. This is okay some of the time, but let’s not make this a chronic habit. We need to stay healthy (physically, mentally, and emotionally) too.

So how do we take care of ourselves? This will look different for everyone, but below I’m going to list some ideas on how to take care of you and hopefully you can implement some of these into your daily routine.

Get Physical!

  1. Gym / workout
  2. Trail walks / hikes
  3. Practice 15 minutes of yoga
  4. Take your dog to the dog park
  5. Ride a horse (Google this. There are surprisingly many places to go do this for an hour)
  6. Try line dancing (I promise, you’ll have fun!)
  7. Try other types of dancing
  8. Play your favorite sport now or from high school
  9. Go for a bike ride
  10. Clean your house (I know, I know, what the heck Lexie?! However, we do find ourselves to be much happier when we live in a clean space)

Get Social!

  1. Go on a date with your SO
  2. Family / friend BBQ
  3. Go out for coffee with a friend
  4. Go to a movie / drive-in (highly recommended you find one in your area)
  5. Go out for breakfast/lunch/dinner
  6. Go to a farmer’s market
  7. Explore a new city (drive or take the train!)
  8. Play a game with friends
  9. Karaoke (Good luck and may the odds be in your favor)
  10. Go to a concert

Get Relaxed!

  1. Take a bath (in the dark) with Epsom salt + light a candle
  2. Light a fire and read a book (obviously a summer activity lol)
  3. Read a book at the beach
  4. Get a massage
  5. Get a facial
  6. Get a manicure/pedicure
  7. Sit outside
  8. Enjoy a fire (in your firepit) with your SO (I felt the need to clarify where…)
  9. Apply a face mask and soak your feet
  10. Watch a TV show/movie that makes you happy while enjoying a cup of tea

Get Creative!

  1. Go to a painting class (ya know the one with wine!)
  2. Draw something
  3. Make something with your hands
  4. Bake
  5. Write a book!
  6. Journal
  7. Cook something new and fancy
  8. Write a song if you are musically inclined (or not, know one has to know)
  9. Take a pottery class
  10. Learn to play an instrument (there are tons of YouTube videos for every instrument, including the banjo!)

Final Thoughts

I hope that at least 1 of these 40 ideas sounds fun to you. I hope that you try as many different things as you possibly can. In my 28 years of life, I have learned that our experiences are what make us happy. It is what we cherish the most. If I can give out any sort of helpful tip or recommendation, it is to experience life more and do the things that make you happy.
